BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Following a successful previous collaboration with Mr. Ademola, CHii Consults was commissioned to design a retail cooking gas plant tailored to meet both functional and spatial constraints. The project presented a unique challenge due to the limited land size and a relatively modest budget.

Beyond the primary requirement of a gas retail facility, the client’s vision extended to incorporating additional complementary uses within the same site. These included an adjoining retail shop to support commercial activity and a temporary one bedroom residential unit to serve as on site accommodation. The brief therefore demanded a creative and efficient design approach that maximized the available space while maintaining safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.

DESIGN INFO

The proposed design integrates all required elements into a cohesive and well organized layout. The gas plant is designed to accommodate a five ton LPG storage tank, strategically positioned to comply with safety standards and operational efficiency. Supporting this is a dual function gas dispensing machine that allows for streamlined service delivery.

To enhance safety, a water sprinkling system is incorporated as part of the fire prevention and control strategy.

In addition to the core gas plant infrastructure, the design includes a retail shop positioned to attract and serve walk in customers. The residential component is a compact one bedroom unit, thoughtfully planned to include a living room, bedroom, kitchen, a full bathroom, and a powder room. This ensures basic comfort and functionality for temporary habitation.

Adequate parking space is also provided within the site to accommodate both customer vehicles and operational needs, ensuring smooth circulation and accessibility.

MATERIALS

Material selection was driven primarily by safety, durability, and low maintenance considerations. The key standout materials used in the design are non combustible Aluminium Composite Panels and facing bricks. These materials were carefully chosen for their fire resistant properties, which are critical in a facility dealing with flammable substances.

In the event of a fire outbreak, these materials help to minimize the spread of flames and enhance the overall safety of the structure, while also contributing to a clean and modern architectural finish.
